I am currently working as a designer and checker, projects worked on include, Calcot Lane UWC GRIP 4-5, Oldends Lane LX Survey, Hereford Sidings Driver's Walkway Lighting, Dawlish Marine Parade Lighting & Watford Euston 650V Renewals.

I produced GRIP 4 to 6 Junction Lighting designs for Miles Platting Junction, Bromley Street Junction, Manchester Victoria East Junction, Stalybridge West Junction, Dewsbury & Batley Lighting as part of the Transpennine Upgrade.
I also provided checking services for other junction lighting schemes on the project.

I currently acting as CRE for the LV power supplies to the new 25kV feeder stations and track section cabins in the PSU1 section of the East Coast Main Line Power Upgrade.
I have also provided design and checking services across various projects.

I acted as CRE for the earthing and bonding of LV systems and lineside equipment for the new 25kV electrification in the Bristol Parkway area, and the role of mentor and checker on various projects.

I introduced new design procedures improving control of the design process, I also reviewed, reformatted and restructured the existing company management system to improve the relevance of the policies, procedures and standard forms, this also included the reformatting of the documents to give a consistent appearance.
I introduced a management system index and document control process and set up a project directory structure for a new off-site server that was introduced and tested the new server before its introduction.
Designed and introduced a standard template for a Detailed Design Electrical Specification.

In this period of my employment, I joined the London Midland Regional Civil Engineer’s Building Services Office in the London Midland HQ in Birmingham.
I progressed from a temporary technical officer through to Electrical Section Engineer (MS3).
I typically worked on electrical renewal schemes for stations, depots and signal boxes and used to take the scheme from site survey, design, cost estimation, specification writing, invitations to tender, site inspection, snagging and hand back into maintenance.

I spent some time in the technical office of the Area Maintenance Engineer Birmingham working on the site survey and design of small electrical schemes within the Birmingham area.

Upon the completion of my apprenticeship I was appointed to the post of Station Electrician at Birmingham International, here I was part of a team of three and was responsible for the maintenance of all the plant and equipment on the station including:
Station & Car Park Lighting, heating and cooling, lifts and escalators, standby generator, 5 local railway stations and station points heating.
The position was remote from the supervisor’s office (located in Birmingham New St) and required a level of self-discipline and trust.

I joined British Rail directly from school at the age of 16; and completed a 4 year mechanical and electrical craft apprenticeship which was made up of one year off the job training at Sutton Coldfield College of Further Education.
